Your right that is why companies often turn to professionals. SEO and SEM are a lot of work and require commitment. Often a company will see it as a part time job. What they fail to recognize is the internet is a live a vibrant environment and the competition is not standing still. As competitors position themselves they are also watching their ranking and are ready to make changes to win back or keep their position. SOE and SEM are critical tools to a popular and well received WEB site. On its own a WEB site may never be found. People often thing to have a WEB site is to be discovered. Where a WEB site can be status symbol and can demonstrate commitment and may be a show piece you invite customers too, any other interaction will not exist without more commitment of time and effort. I have several WEB sites that are classrooms, students find them through their organization, the sites are not intended to receive traffic from other sources, by design they are not marketed.

Just like a car, as great as they are, they will not go anywhere without gas. You will get no further than what you put into it whether “it” is a car or WEB site. Determine what the intent of your WEB site is, if it is a marketing tool and it needs traffic you need SEO and SEM.

I don't agree with everything in this post, but you do make some very good points. Im very interested in this topic and I myself do alot of research as well. Either way it was a well thoughtout and nice read so I figured I would leave you a comment. Feel free to check out my website sometime and let me know what you think.
